Braces Shmaces

Ok. So I had my acting class tonight and I was super nervous about acting with braces. Sounds silly I know. It just sucks that I was finally finding my grove, letting go of all that self conscious shit that college left me with and now here I am, having another thing to be self conscious about. Well I should have checked all my nerves at the door because it went fine! The scene went great and my teacher even said braces work for me. Ya, I look like I'm about 12, but as long as it's not turning me into an awkward actor then I'm okay.
Also, I know I've only had them on like a week but I figured I would start noticing changes by now. Only because my ortho told me shifting would happen like right away. Maybe it's so gradual I can't tell. I can't wait till my bottom teeth are straightened out though. I have a bit of crowding at the moment.
Also, if anyone can give me some tips on how to floss with braces that would be great! Seriously, not that easy.
Off to Taos tomorrow. Back just in time for ACL. Can't wait.

  1. Flossing with braces is a pain in the a**! I found floss that already has the stiff end attached to the piece of floss which makes it a little easier...versus having to do the whole 'needle/thread' thing. The maker is Oral-B and it's called super floss. It works for me, some people complain that the floss is too thick, but it actually has a thick side and a thin side. Sounds complicated but it's not I promise!

As far as getting used to braces...you'll get there. I've never had braces before so getting them on 12 weeks ago was quite the experience! I thought I'd never get used to them...but sure enough...they're part of me now!

    I enjoyed your blog...keep on smiling! :D

  2. I had the same problem! I was so worried about acting with braces... I had to perform a scene the day after, and it sounded like I had a lisp... However my director gave me a break considering I just had two tons of metal glued onto my teeth the day before... haha. I am actually getting my surgery done this summer too. I just got the date the other day, July 8th, 2010. Have you gotten your date yet??? It'll be nice to have someone going through the "kinda" same thing at the same time. :) I have an underbite, crossbite, and openbite... and I am having surgery on the top and bottom jaw as well. I have more details on my blog... Keep us posted on your "journey"... :)
